Too Old or Too Young?

When I turned 40, I decided I was too old for a lot of things. I'm too old to wear uncomfortable clothes, shoes, or bras. I'm too old to worry about what everyone thinks. I'm too old to worry about things that are out of my control. I'm too old to stress about the little things. I'm too old to keep people in my life that aren't good for me. I'm old enough to be able to admit when I'm wrong and apologize. I'm old enough to try new things. I'm old enough to accept things the way they are. I'm old enough to realize that I do have the power to change what I don't like. I'm old enough to have greater patience. I'm old enough to realize worrying doesn't fix or change anything. I'm old enough to know that older doesn't always mean wiser. I'm old enough to like who I am.

On the flip side, I'm young enough to enjoy taking my nephews out for ice cream. I'm young enough to chase my kids around the playground. I'm young enough to play Barbies with my daughter. I'm young enough to still get excited over the holidays, presents and cards. I'm young enough not to care about wrinkles (yet). I'm young enough to be willing to sit back and enjoy the ride that is my life. I'm young enough to still make mistakes, learn from them and move on. I'm young enough to know it is "never too late". I'm young enough to believe the best is yet to come.

Age is a state of mind. Luckily, I am young at heart. No matter my age, my life can be filled with purpose, acceptance, dignity, and joy.

  1. You can take me out for ice cream when I visit :) But I'm not playing Barbies with you.

  2. No, you will be too busy playing Barbies with Sara and making Jello pretzel salad with me.
